Weston-super-Mare Edge Bath City with Last-Gasp Victory

Louis Britton delivered a dramatic 92nd-minute winner, ending Bath City’s impressive five-game unbeaten run at Weston-super-Mare. The former Roman netted his second goal of the match just nine minutes after Will Jenkins Davies had seemingly secured a valuable point for the visitors.

All three goals unfolded at familiar moments, mirroring Bath City’s recent weekend victory at Hampton. Britton gave Weston-super-Mare the lead shortly after halftime. However, City’s defensive lapses on set-pieces proved costly, as they have now dropped five points in added time on the road since early October.

The first half was a cagey affair, with few clear chances. Former Weston player Brad Ash blasted Jenkins Davies’ pull-back wide from six yards. Weston’s sole opportunity came in unusual fashion when Dan Greenslade’s clearance ricocheted off Will Dawes and into goalkeeper Harvey Wiles-Richards’ hands. Wiles-Richards, returning after missing Saturday’s match due to the birth of his first child, was well shielded during the opening 45 minutes.

Weston came out renewed in the second half, and just 17 seconds after the break, Wiles-Richards saved Britton’s curling shot but Dawes’ follow-up struck the post from close range. Joe Raynes picked up a caution five minutes later for a foul on James Dodd. This marked his fifth booking of the season, ruling him out of Bath’s upcoming game against Maidstone United in December.

The breakthrough came on 57 minutes as Weston built patiently, culminating in Michael Smith’s cross from the byline finding Britton, who headed home past Wiles-Richards. Bath City manager Darren Way reacted swiftly by substituting Jordan Alves for Manny Yeboah, gradually seeing his side regain momentum.

Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute. Greenslade’s cross from the left was inadvertently flicked on by Emlyn Lewis, finding Jenkins Davies at the back post. His initial effort was saved by Jason Pope, but with goalkeeper Max Harris off his line, Jenkins Davies calmly side-footed in from close range to level the score.

Yet, Bath City’s fightback was undone in stoppage time. Luke Coulson’s corner from the left allowed Britton to outjump Kieran Parselle and nod home the winner. This marked Britton’s 13th goal of the season across all competitions, keeping Weston-super-Mare in close pursuit of league leaders Hornchurch and handing Bath City their first defeat since November 1st at the Optima Stadium.
