Weston-super-Mare has capped off an extraordinary season by maintaining an unbeaten streak and clinching the Regional 2 Tribute Ale South West title along with promotion, marking a historic achievement in the club’s 150th anniversary year.
Entering the match against Okehampton, Weston was aware that second-placed Tiverton trailed by 19 points but had a game in hand. A mere two points from this fixture would guarantee Weston their first promotion since the 2016/17 season.
The game unfolded under bright sunshine before a large, enthusiastic crowd, including a sizeable group of traveling Weston supporters. The atmosphere was charged as Okehampton, known for their resilience—having been tough opponents in the earlier encounter—sought to challenge Weston’s unbeaten run.

A solemn minute’s silence was observed before kickoff to honor Matt Salter, a revered figure in the rugby community who recently passed away at 49. Salter had an illustrious career with Bristol Rugby, captaining the team for five seasons before serving as Clifton’s director of rugby.
Weston demonstrated their dominance early on, capitalizing on penalties and displaying excellent ball control. Tighthead prop Ieuan John broke through for an early try from a driving lineout. Although Okehampton responded with an impressive try initiated by fly-half and captain Tom McGratton, Weston kept their composure and exploited opponents’ penalties.
No. 8 Nasili Ikahihifo shone brilliantly, crossing the line twice in the first half, each time with successful conversions from fly-half George Nuttycombe. Okehampton’s efforts, including a remarkable 80-meter run by fullback Leon Horn, kept them competitive, but Weston extended their lead thanks to effective team play culminating in a try by right wing Keanu Ballard.
Despite moments of fluctuating momentum and a stop-start rhythm caused by persistent infringements from both sides, Weston secured a commanding 26-10 lead at halftime with a try-scoring bonus point in hand.
The second half saw Okehampton apply early pressure but unable to breach Weston’s resolute defense. Weston’s half-backs engineered opportunities, including a hallmark hat-trick try for Ikahihifo, who remained unstoppable throughout the match. With Okehampton’s Mikey Stevens receiving a yellow card for a high tackle, Weston increased their advantage further.
Weston sustained physical challenges, including a shoulder injury to Ieuan John, but substitutions maintained their momentum. Ikahihifo scored a fourth try, emphasizing his pivotal role across the season, now totaling 12 tries in 17 appearances. Defensive resilience and tactical poise led Weston to withstand late Okehampton attacks and secure a convincing victory.
Finishing the season with 100 league points, Weston will advance to Regional 1 Tribute South West for the 2026/27 campaign, carrying forward their ambition to continue an unbeaten record. Their final fixtures include a trip to Tiverton and a home game against Crediton, where celebrations are anticipated to mark this remarkable milestone.
