Both Weston-super-Mare and Yate Town saw their FA Cup campaigns come to an end on Tuesday evening after defeats in their respective second qualifying round replays.
Weston-super-Mare, competing in the National League South and coming off an impressive run to the third round last season, travelled to Dorset to face lower-tier Wimborne Town. The initial home fixture ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday, prompting the replay.
In a tense replay, neither side managed to score in the regular 90 minutes, pushing the game into extra time. Weston took the lead early in extra time with a strike from George Robesten in the 94th minute. However, Wimborne fought back and levelled the score in the 109th minute through Matt Villa. With no further goals, the tie was decided on penalties, where Wimborne triumphed 4-3, ending Weston’s hopes of a cup run this season.

Meanwhile, Chippenham Town and Yate Town also faced off in a second qualifying round replay after their initial 0-0 draw on Friday. The replay saw a tight first half devoid of goals, but the deadlock was broken in the 66th minute when Chippenham defender Ben Richards-Everton scored from close range. Yate responded swiftly, with Marlon Jackson equalising two minutes later.
The match remained evenly poised until extra time, when Chippenham midfielder Felix Miles capitalised on space in the penalty area to net the decisive goal in the 99th minute. This strike secured Chippenham’s progression and ended Yate Town’s involvement in the competition.
These results mark an early exit for both Weston-super-Mare and Yate Town, signalling the challenges non-league teams face in advancing through the FA Cup’s preliminary stages.
