Weston Residents to Lead £20 Million Neighbourhood Revitalisation Fund

Residents in Weston-super-Mare are set to take the lead in revitalising their neighbourhoods with a new £20 million government fund designed to improve local parks, high streets, and vacant buildings.

Daniel Aldridge, the area’s Member of Parliament, has successfully secured £2 million annually over ten years for neighbourhoods including Bournville, Oldmixon, and Coronation Estates under the Plan for Neighbourhoods scheme.

This unique initiative empowers local people to decide how the funds are spent. Residents will form part of a local board, ensuring community voices guide the planning and execution of projects.

The funding can be used for a variety of enhancements, from upgrading play spaces and parks to revitalising run-down commercial areas and repurposing empty properties. Community members will collaborate with the MP to develop ideas that address local needs.

Daniel Aldridge commented, “Local residents understand their communities better than anyone else. I’m thrilled the government has entrusted us with the resources to directly improve areas that need it most. This is our chance to make a genuine difference by making the decisions ourselves.”

He added, “Securing £2 million annually for a decade is a significant investment that will unlock many opportunities. We welcome all ideas on how best to use this funding.”

Reflecting on his campaign, Mr Aldridge said, “During my visits door-to-door last year, many people expressed feeling overlooked and forgotten. I committed to championing places like Coronation, Oldmixon, and Bournville, and today I’m proud to deliver on that promise.”

He continued, “This fund builds on the incredible efforts of community members who have sustained these neighbourhoods despite many challenges. Now is our chance to showcase what we can achieve together.”
