‘Vulnerable’ Residents Receive Bottled Water Amid Cheddar Treatment Works Concerns

Bristol Water has initiated deliveries of bottled water to some of its most vulnerable customers in North Somerset following an issue at the Cheddar treatment works. These precautionary measures are targeting Category 1 and 2 customers—individuals with disabilities, medical conditions, or other special requirements.

In a statement released via social media on Sunday, September 14, Bristol Water confirmed, “For precaution purposes, we have started to deliver bottled water to our most vulnerable customers (Cat 1 and 2)” due to concerns related to the Cheddar treatment work.

Customers registered under Bristol Water’s Priority Services scheme, which offers specialized support, are the recipients of these bottled water deliveries. Those unsure of their eligibility can visit Bristol Water’s website to sign up for free.

Importantly, the actions stem from worries about water availability at the Cheddar Reservoir rather than any faults in the water treatment process. Recent reservoir storage levels, as reported on September 9, stood at 25%, a noticeable decline from 37% on the same date last year. Despite lower storage, none of the affected residents have experienced interruptions to their regular water supply. Bristol Water has also pledged to promptly inform customers of any further issues regarding their water service.
