Spaxton Church of England Primary School, a rural Somerset school and member of the Quantock Education Trust, is celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ rating across all categories in its latest Ofsted inspection—a significant achievement for this village school.
Inspectors commended the school’s strong community ethos, high aspirations for every pupil, and effective leadership that drives continuous improvement. The official Ofsted report highlighted the school’s ambitious and broad curriculum, its dedication to pupil wellbeing, and a learning environment described as “calm and purposeful.”
“The school maintains high expectations for what pupils can achieve through a broad and ambitious curriculum,” the report stated. “Pupils rise to these challenges and typically learn the curriculum well.” The inspectors also praised the pupils’ sense of responsibility and citizenship, fostered through a variety of leadership roles that empower them to make a meaningful difference.

Additional positives noted included Spaxton’s strong focus on reading, its effective support for mixed-age classes, and the staff’s commitment to creating a supportive environment that motivates children to learn.
Headteacher Claire Rood expressed pride in the school’s progress: “We’re delighted that the school’s developments have been acknowledged. The Ofsted comment that ‘there has been a sharp focus on the quality of education that the pupils receive’ is particularly encouraging.
