On the afternoon of Wednesday, 26 August, two vehicles became trapped in soft sand and mud on Brean Beach, Somerset, as the tide was coming in. The incident unfolded when a Beach Safety Warden was called to rescue a child who had become stuck in the mud.
The warden successfully brought the child to safety; however, their vehicle became immobilised on the beach. A second vehicle was dispatched to assist but also became stuck in the treacherous conditions. Both vehicles were eventually submerged in the sea as the tide encroached, remaining stranded overnight.
Photographs released by Burnham-on-Sea.com show the vehicles partially submerged as the sea covered much of the beach. Fortunately, both vehicles were recovered the following morning without any injuries reported.

A spokesperson for Somerset Council commented: “Our Beach Safety Warden was rescuing a child who was trapped in the mud on an incoming tide. Crucially, they got the child to safety, but unfortunately, the vehicle became stuck, and a further vehicle which went out to assist also became stuck. Both were caught by the tide. Thankfully, nobody was injured. The vehicles were recovered on Thursday morning.”
