Dramatic images have emerged showing the aftermath of a blue van that was swept into a bridge by floodwaters in the Somerset village of Chew Magna. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 15, as Storm Claudia brought heavy rain and flooding to the area.
The van became trapped on a local road between Bristol and the Mendip Hills after being carried along by fast-moving floodwaters. Photos reveal the vehicle wedged against a bridge, its windscreen cracked from the impact. Fortunately, the driver had already exited the van before emergency services arrived.
Chew Firefighters shared details on their Facebook page, noting that their crew was called out at around 11 p.m., although the incident happened earlier in the day. The team responded to five separate emergencies throughout the day.

With winter rains increasing the risk of flooding in parts of the Chew Valley, fire crews issued a warning: drivers should avoid crossing fast-moving floodwaters and seek alternative routes. Even just 30 centimeters of flowing water can cause a vehicle to lose traction, posing serious risks.
In any emergency situation, they urge people to call 999 immediately.
