A tragic accident claimed the life of a van driver in a two-vehicle collision on the A358 earlier today, Sunday, June 14. The crash occurred between Ilminster and Taunton, leading to the closure of the road shortly after 10 a.m.
Authorities shut down the A358 between Southfields Roundabout and Rapps, including the junctions with Broadway Street and Cad Road at Ilton. Police later confirmed on their social media channels that these closures would last for several hours to allow for thorough investigation.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the air ambulance land on the A358 as emergency services responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson expressed condolences: “Sadly, the man driving the van died at the scene. His family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers during this difficult time.”
