A concerned Somerset resident has highlighted pressing safety issues on Wedmore Road in Cheddar, a heavily trafficked route frequented by children walking to school daily. Although the road has a 30mph speed limit and features three commonly used crossing points, the resident warns that none of these crossings are safe due to the absence of clear road markings and warning signs to alert drivers.
This road serves as a vital link for families traveling to several local schools, including Cheddar First School, Fairlands Middle School, Kings Academy, and Little Adventures Nursery. The resident expressed deep worry that despite daily observations of this hazardous situation, a serious accident involving a child may soon occur.
Having contacted Somerset Council directly, the resident was informed that while road safety remains a priority, budget restrictions require the council to carefully prioritize highway maintenance and improvements. A spokesperson for Somerset Council reiterated the authority’s commitment to safety and encouraged residents to engage with local councils or Local Community Networks (LCNs) to report concerns and collaborate on potential solutions.
