Unveiling the Mythical Charms of Somerset in Fantasy Tale

Somerset, with its rich history and legends, has inspired the creation of a new fantasy saga. Alexander Paul Burton, a local musician and storyteller from Catcott, has recently introduced the first installment of The Tharion Cycle series titled The Hollow Vale: Act I. This enchanting saga is deeply intertwined with the landscapes, history, and folklore of Somerset, offering a reimagined version of the county during the fall of Roman Britain and weaving a mythic story rooted in memory, silence, and queer identity.

The narrative draws profound inspiration from Somerset’s landscapes and lore. Aqua Sularia, inspired by the Roman city of Bath, is portrayed as a sacred place where the waters hold the memories of the past and whispers of the future. The protagonist, Caelwyn, embarks on her journey from Brent Knoll, encountering visions that challenge her perception of destiny. Glastonbury Tor, steeped in mythic resonance and associated with legends of King Arthur and Avalon, serves as a beacon for seekers of the last bell, blending historical echoes with the story’s unique mythology. Portrayed as a place where realms converge and the veil between worlds thins, it adds an air of mystery and spiritual significance to the tale.

Despite currently residing in Toronto, the author remains deeply connected to Somerset, with it being at the core of his creative endeavors. The Hollow Vale: Act I is now available for purchase online and will soon be stocked in major UK bookstores, including Waterstones, Foyles, and independent outlets.
