A major advancement for UK electric vehicle (EV) drivers is on the horizon with the announcement of a new ultra-rapid charging superhub on the A303 in Wiltshire. InstaVolt, a leading British charging network, has secured a 40-year lease to develop a state-of-the-art facility featuring 30 ultra-rapid chargers.
This superhub will not only enhance EV infrastructure but also provide a café and farm shop, offering fresh amenities to passing motorists and the local community alike. Located just 10 miles west of Stonehenge, the site is poised to serve millions of drivers traveling between the east and west of the UK, including tourists heading to the West Country and residents nearby.
Following the success of its Winchester Superhub, InstaVolt plans to install large batteries and solar panels at the new site. This renewable energy setup is designed to enable discounted charging periods, similar to the highly popular 50p per kWh rate offered at Winchester, making charging more affordable and sustainable.

With planning permission and grid connection secured, construction will begin in August 2025, aiming for an opening by late spring 2026. The development forms part of a broader government push to improve EV infrastructure on the UK’s Strategic Road Network. National Highways is also rolling out new signage to highlight available EV charging points, reassuring both EV and non-EV drivers of the growing convenience and reliability of electric mobility.
Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, stated, “Chicklade is the next step in our mission to combine scale, sustainability, and convenience. This superhub, with 30 ultra-rapid chargers alongside a farm shop and café, will become a vital stop on the bustling A303, powered by cutting-edge renewable energy technologies.”
The facility will occupy land on the Fonthill Estate, with whom InstaVolt has collaborated closely over the past two years. Representatives from the estate praised the partnership, emphasizing its role in supporting local communities, enhancing the regional road network, promoting economic regeneration, and creating jobs.
Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood highlighted the government’s commitment to making EV ownership more accessible and charging easier than ever. “With a new chargepoint added every half hour nationwide, initiatives like InstaVolt’s new superhub help put range anxiety firmly in the rear-view mirror, making electric travel a practical choice for more people.”
The new A303 superhub stands as a significant milestone in the UK’s transition to greener transport, combining rapid, renewable-powered charging with community-focused amenities to serve drivers now and in the future.
