UK’s Worst Holiday Parks Exposed: Somerset Locations Again Hit Rock Bottom

The latest Which? survey assessing UK holiday parks for 2025 has highlighted the best and worst destinations, with Somerset’s Pontins holiday parks once again finding themselves at the bottom of the list.

Drawing on feedback from 1,700 Which? members, the survey evaluated holiday parks based on cleanliness, accommodation quality, variety of free activities, and overall value for money.

Pontins, with a current customer satisfaction score of just 56%, claimed the lowest ranking for the second consecutive year. The brand now operates only one park open to guests: the adults-only Sand Bay Holiday Village in Weston-Super-Mare. Its other parks in Burnham-on-Sea and Pakefield remain closed due to construction.

Despite being marketed as an affordable option, many customers reported poor value for money. Reviews of the Brean Sands park labeled it as “absolutely terrible” and “filthy,” with complaints about unclean accommodation and unfriendly staff. However, some families appreciated the kid-friendly activities, highlighting nearby theme parks and an open pool with adventure features.

Away Resorts, with parks in Cornwall and Dorset, also scored poorly with a 64% rating. Though offering diverse accommodation options from caravans to luxury lodges, the brand struggled with low marks for value and customer service.

Center Parcs emerged as the most popular brand in the survey, earning a 69% customer satisfaction score. Particularly, Center Parcs Longleat Forest received favorable reviews. However, guests criticized the high cost, limited free activities, and value for money, with some describing the experience as expensive despite quality accommodation and helpful staff.

Haven, operating 38 parks nationwide including two in Somerset, matched Center Parcs’ 69% score but achieved a slightly better three-star rating for value for money. However, customers expressed dissatisfaction with food and drink quality and the range of free activities.

Topping the list was Potters Resorts, known for its all-inclusive offerings at locations in Essex and Norfolk. Primarily catering to adults, but welcoming families during summer holidays, Potters scored an impressive 87%. Their package includes high-quality accommodation, diverse activities such as pickleball and archery, and evening shows—delivering strong value despite a higher price point.

Forest Holidays secured second place with an 80% customer score, praised for rural locations and unique lodgings like treehouses and log cabins. Though highly rated for accommodation and cleanliness, it received only moderate marks for value.

Bluestone Wales also performed well with a 77% score, famous for luxury lodges and children’s entertainment. However, similar to Forest Holidays, value for money was a common critique.

Pontins, Away Resorts, Park Holidays, Butlins, Center Parcs, and Haven have been contacted for comment.
