Major roadworks will commence in Worle on Monday, February 23, as construction begins on the Worle Interchange. These improvements are expected to continue through to May, during which time diversions will be in place to manage traffic flow and minimize disruption.
The project aims to enhance the interchange with a range of new features, including three modern bus shelters equipped with living roofs that support local biodiversity, five real-time information screens, improved public spaces with new lighting and seating, and safer pedestrian crossings on both Commercial Way and Queensway. Additional amenities will include new bicycle stands and a cycle maintenance station, promoting sustainable travel options.
Cllr Hugh Malyan, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, emphasized the council’s commitment to minimizing inconvenience. “We’re working closely with bus operators to maintain smooth service throughout the works. Staff will be on hand at the interchange to guide passengers to temporary stops, with clear signage and floor markings to assist,” he said. “We appreciate residents’ patience and are excited to deliver a significantly improved interchange this spring.”

Partly funded by the government, the roadworks will also introduce a new landmark on the interchange’s central island, enhancing the area’s identity and usability.
Some bus routes will be diverted during construction; passengers should check the latest travel updates to navigate temporary arrangements effectively.
