Two-Month Roadworks Set to Transform Worle Interchange Starting Monday

Starting Monday, February 23, Worle will undergo significant roadworks as the Worle Interchange closes for essential improvements. These construction activities are expected to continue through May, with diversions and temporary arrangements in place to ease travel during the period.

The upgrade aims to enhance the overall transport experience at Worle Interchange. Planned improvements include the installation of three new bus shelters equipped with living roofs to support local biodiversity, five real-time passenger information screens, and upgraded public spaces featuring modern lighting and comfortable seating. Safer pedestrian crossings will be established on both Commercial Way and Queensway, alongside new bicycle stands and a cycle maintenance station to support eco-friendly travel.

Councillor Hugh Malyan, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, emphasized that coordination with bus operators is a priority to maintain smooth service throughout the works. “We will have staff onsite to assist passengers with locating temporary bus stops, supplemented by clear signage and floor markings to guide travelers,” said Malyan. He also thanked residents for their patience and expressed enthusiasm for the improved facilities arriving this spring.

Partially funded by the government, the project will also feature a striking new landmark on the central island of Worle Interchange, adding a visual highlight to the area.

During construction, some bus routes will be diverted to accommodate the works, and passengers are encouraged to check the Checking One Network and Travel West websites for the latest updates on roadworks and bus service changes.
