Two Men Charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving in Tragic Case of NHS Worker Ella Cook

Two men have appeared in court accused of causing the death of 26-year-old NHS worker Ella Cook by dangerous driving, a tragedy that also left two others seriously injured.

Alfie Cook, 22, of Brook Street, Warminster, and 23-year-old Lewis Glasby, of The Beeches, Warminster, faced Bath Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, January 7, on charges related to a high-speed incident on the A36 in Warminster on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

Both men are charged with causing the death of Ella Cook by driving dangerously, as well as two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Prosecutor Maree Doyle stated in court: “They were driving at a high speed, essentially racing against each other.”

A witness reported the vehicles were traveling at speeds between 90 and 100 miles per hour during the incident. Ella Cook was driving her Ford Fiesta when the crash occurred.

Ella Cook, a dedicated NHS worker who was engaged to be married, lost her life in this avoidable tragedy. Following her passing, friends and family established a fundraiser for the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, one of her favorite places, which has raised over £10,000 from more than 450 donors.

A family representative expressed their grief: “Ella was 26 with her whole life ahead of her—a promising NHS career, a wedding planned, and many dreams. She and her partner Kai cherished their visits to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.”

Neither Alfie Cook nor Lewis Glasby entered pleas at this hearing. Both have been granted unconditional bail and are scheduled to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, February 6.
