Two Men Charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving in Dorset Crash

Two men have been formally charged following the tragic death of a pedestrian in a crash that occurred over a year ago.

On the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 7:46 pm, Dorset police were called to the scene of a collision on the A350 Main Road near Compton Abbas. The incident involved a silver Audi TT Quattro, a grey BMW 218i, a blue Isuzu D-Max, and a pedestrian.

Emergency responders attended promptly, but 62-year-old Dean McCormack from Warminster, Wiltshire, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Audi, a man in his 20s, was transported to the hospital with injuries reported to be non-life-threatening.

Following the crash, two men were arrested on suspicion of driving offences. After an extensive 16-month investigation conducted by the Serious Collision Investigation Team, formal charges have now been brought against both men. The accused are a 21-year-old from Shaftesbury and a 22-year-old from Mere, Wiltshire—both charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Sergeant Mike Burt of the Serious Collision Investigation Team expressed condolences to the family of Dean McCormack. He emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to move forward without public speculation, especially on social media platforms.

This case is now progressing through the court system, underscoring the commitment to justice following this tragic event.
