Two Men Arrested for Attempted Murder Following Assault in Claverham

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a violent assault occurred in the village of Claverham, Somerset. The incident took place on Thursday, July 3, at approximately 4:40 pm on the High Street.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was found with serious injuries described as potentially life-changing but not life-threatening. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he remains under treatment.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault, affray, and possession of an offensive weapon. Additionally, a 37-year-old man was also detained on suspicion of attempted murder. Both suspects remain in police custody pending further investigation.

Following the attack, several nearby roads were closed to allow forensic teams to conduct examinations, reopening by 10:30 pm the same evening.

Somerset’s Neighbourhood Inspector Matthew Hawkins commented on the incident, saying, “This sort of incident is out of the ordinary for Claverham. While we don’t believe there is any wider risk to the public, residents will notice an increased police presence as we continue our inquiries.”

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the attack or possesses CCTV or dashcam footage that could aid the investigation to come forward. Witnesses can contact police via 101, quoting reference number 5225186586.

Avon and Somerset Police emphasized the seriousness of the assault and reiterated their commitment to thoroughly investigating the case.
