Realizing you need a new passport just before an international trip can be daunting. Fortunately, the HM Passport Office provides two fast-track services designed to get your passport in your hands faster than the standard three-week processing time.
The standard passport service often takes around three weeks but can be delayed further if additional documents, interviews, or checks are required. If time is tight, these two expedited options could be the answer.
- Premium One-Day Service
This service is exclusive to adults renewing their passports. Applications must be submitted online, with fees of £222 for a standard 34-page passport or £235 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport. After applying, you can book an appointment—usually within two days. At your appointment, you’ll need to submit your old passport. Your new passport is then ready for same-day collection, just four hours later, ensuring you can travel almost immediately.

- Fast-Track One-Week Service
Accessible for renewals as well as for other passport needs, this option costs £178 for an adult standard passport (£191 for the 54-page version) and £145 for a child’s passport (£158 for the 54-page version). You can schedule an appointment for the day after you apply. Usually, the passport will arrive at your home within about a week, offering a swift solution for most urgent travel plans.
Please note that these services are not available for first-time adult applications or if you are applying from abroad. Also, if you’ve already applied for a passport and haven’t received it yet, do not pay for an urgent service—it won’t speed up the process and will incur a £32 administrative fee for each additional application.
