Two people have died following a crash between a lorry and a van on the A358 in Combe Florey, near Taunton. The collision occurred at approximately 6.40am on Wednesday, September 30.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that a white Mazda Bongo van and a Volvo lorry were involved in the incident. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the two occupants of the van died at the scene.
Rachel Gilmour, MP for Tiverton and Minehead, expressed her sorrow over the tragedy. “I am extremely saddened to hear the news that two people have lost their lives following yesterday’s incident on the A358 in Combe Florey,” she said. “This has come as a great shock to everyone in our community. My thoughts are with the victims’ families and loved ones during this difficult time.”

She also thanked the emergency personnel who responded and urged the public to respect the police investigation. “I want to thank all the emergency services personnel who attended the scene for their diligent and courageous work. Avon and Somerset Police now need space to carry out their investigation, so I urge everyone to follow their advice and avoid spreading speculation online.”
