The community of Bridgwater is mourning the loss of Chad Chappell, a beloved 28-year-old bricklayer whose warmth and humor left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Chad was described by friends and family as a “once in a blue moon character” whose infectious laughter and caring nature could light up any room, even on the darkest days.
Since the sad news of his passing, a heartfelt fundraiser launched on July 2 has gathered overwhelming support, raising over £14,000 from 579 generous donors. Local football club, Wembdon Junior Football Club, honored Chad’s passion for the sport with a £500 donation, extending their condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.
Close friend Tom Leland shared poignant memories of Chad: “With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of our beloved friend. He was the funniest, most loving, and handsome young man whose presence could bring joy to everyone around him. Chad was truly unique and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”

Tom also appealed to the community for help in covering costs related to Chad’s farewell, emphasizing that every contribution, no matter the size, would help give him the respectful and loving memorial he deserves. For those unable to donate, he encouraged sharing Chad’s story and reminded everyone to check in on their loved ones: “Chad would want us all to keep looking out for one another.”
The fundraiser remains open for donations, celebrating the life of a young man who inspired so many. The loss has also highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, reminding people that support is always available.
