Heartfelt tributes have been paid to an 18-year-old man from Somerset who lost his life following a tragic accident on the M5 motorway. The young man, described by family and friends as an “amazing young lad” and “a really good chap,” died at the scene after an incident involving an ambulance and a collision.
The tragedy occurred around 11:10 pm on Sunday, November 30, on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. The young man had left an ambulance in which he was being transported to hospital for treatment. An off-duty police officer stopped to assist him, but shortly afterward, he was struck by a car traveling on the southbound side.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the young man’s death and expressed their deepest condolences to his family. Social media has since been flooded with messages remembering him. One friend wrote, “Such a tragic accident and a loss of an amazing young lad.” Another added, “You will be remembered. Thank you for being there for me through the years.” Many commenters highlighted the profound impact of his loss, calling it “heartbreaking” and acknowledging the void left in the lives of those who knew him.

Assistant Chief Constable Joanne Hall expressed the police force’s sorrow, emphasizing support for both the family and emergency staff who were deeply affected by the incident. “We are ensuring welfare support is in place for officers, ambulance crews, and public witnesses,” she said.
An independent investigation into the circumstances is underway, led by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC confirmed that the young man exited the ambulance, and despite efforts by an officer to assist him, he was fatally hit by a vehicle.
