Tributes Pour In Following the Death of Legendary Umpire Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird at 92

Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird, one of cricket’s most iconic umpires and a cherished figure in the sport, has died at the age of 92, Yorkshire County Cricket Club announced. His death marks the loss of a beloved personality who made an indelible mark on cricket both on and off the field.

Bird was widely celebrated for his umpiring excellence during a distinguished career and was appointed president of Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 2014—a testament to his deep ties and enduring influence within the cricket community.

In an official statement, Yorkshire County Cricket Club expressed heartfelt condolences: “The thoughts of everyone at Yorkshire County Cricket Club are with Dickie’s family and friends during this difficult time. He will be truly missed by all at the Club, having devoted an incredible amount of time supporting the cricket community and the Club itself. He will be remembered as one of the greatest characters in Yorkshire’s history.”
