Sarah Fisher, an esteemed animal welfare advocate and partner of actor Anthony Head, passed away on 23 December 2025, just three months after being diagnosed with aggressive anaplastic thyroid cancer. The inquest into her death, held at Avon Coroners’ Court, highlighted her resilience and dedication to the animals she cared for.
Residing in Bath, Sarah was known for running Tilley Farm, a sanctuary dedicated to rescued horses, ponies, and donkeys. She also served as an ambassador for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where she contributed her expertise in canine behaviour and training.
Despite her terminal diagnosis, Sarah continued her daily routines, tending to her animals and taking lengthy walks with her dogs. Her daughter Emily Head, whose statement was read at the inquest by area coroner Dr Peter Harrowing, described her mother as someone who “did not let the diagnosis define her and would tell anyone who would visit that she was too busy living.” Emily further reflected that Sarah truly embodied “the very essence of what it means to thrive.”

Sarah’s medical journey began in August 2019 with a diagnosis of a benign thyroid nodule. However, in June 2025, she noticed increased swelling, which led to urgent medical evaluations. By September, she received the diagnosis of thyroid cancer, prompting her to undergo radiotherapy in October and chemotherapy in December. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and cared for by palliative nurses.
Consultant clinical oncologist Dr Matthew Beasley stated that Sarah’s three-month survival following diagnosis is typical for the highly aggressive anaplastic thyroid cancer.
The inquest concluded with Dr Harrowing reaching the verdict that Sarah Fisher died from natural causes, offering condolences to her family who were not present at the hearing.
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home paid tribute to Sarah’s impactful contributions alongside her partner, Anthony Head, who passed away earlier this year due to complications from pneumonia. The charity expressed that Sarah’s dedication and passion deeply influenced their work and she will be profoundly missed.
