Tribute to Frome Football Legend and Former Policeman in Latest Somerset Funeral Notices

Each week, we remember those from our local communities who have passed away, highlighting the heartfelt announcements shared by friends and family. Our newspaper and website continue a proud tradition of publishing funeral notices, which also appear on funeral-notices.co.uk - the UK’s leading platform for death notices and memorials.

These notices remain accessible online indefinitely, providing a lasting tribute and a space where loved ones can share memories, post photos, and make charitable donations in honour of those who have died.

Among the notices published this week, a particularly poignant tribute was paid to Graham “Nobby,” a former police officer and football coach from Frome and Bath, who passed away peacefully at Torrwood Care Home in Wells on 8th August 2026, aged 86. Graham was widely respected for his commitment to youth football in Somerset, recognised not only locally but across the South West. His dedication helped launch the football career of England international and Aston Villa player Tyrone Mings.

Graham’s funeral service will take place at Haycombe Crematorium, Bath, on Thursday 27th August at 2:00pm. Attendees are invited to wear smart casual attire or a football shirt in tribute to his lifelong support of Yeovil Town Football Club and Frome Collegians. Following the service, a reception will be held at Frome Football Club. The family requests donations, if desired, be made to Dementia UK through Wayne Kelly Independent Funeral Directors.

Graham’s undoubted impact extended beyond sport; over a 35-year police career starting as a Police Cadet in 1957, he rose to Detective Chief Superintendent with Avon & Somerset Constabulary, earning the Queen’s Police Medal in 1991 for outstanding service.

Other notices include:

  • Dave, father and grandfather, who passed away at the Royal United Hospital Bath on 4th August after a short illness. His funeral is scheduled for 24th August at Haycombe Crematorium.

  • Tony of Shepton Mallet, who died peacefully on 3rd August at 91 years old, with his funeral on 2nd September at Mendip Crematorium.

  • A number of cherished community members, including individuals from Wells, Taunton, Chilton Trinity, and other Somerset towns, whose lives are honoured through heartfelt funeral services and donations to various causes such as Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK, and local charities.

We extend our sympathies to all families and friends mourning their loved ones. To view the full list of funeral notices, submit tributes, or create a funeral notice, please visit our website or contact our team by phone.
