Tragic Loss of 10-Year-Old Bailey Shrimpton After Sudden Illness

The Shrimpton family from Crewkerne, Somerset, is grieving the heartbreaking loss of their 10-year-old son, Bailey, who passed away just days after showing symptoms initially thought to be a simple stomach bug.

Bailey came home from school on Thursday, October 23, complaining of stomach pain and soon began vomiting. Despite his discomfort, he remained cheerful, playing Xbox with friends and staying hydrated. His family hoped the illness was just a passing virus.

However, over the following days, Bailey’s condition worsened. By Saturday, he was unable to eat, and medical advice was sought via NHS 111. Based on a doctor’s guidance, Bailey was taken to Yeovil A&E, where he received fluids, blood tests, and anti-sickness medication. Though his infection markers were elevated, he was diagnosed with a viral infection and sent home.

Initially, Bailey appeared to improve, but vomiting returned in the early hours of Sunday, October 26. His family continued to monitor him closely, reassured by his upbeat demeanor. Tragically, later that night, Bailey’s condition deteriorated rapidly. His sister noticed his skin was mottled and blue, signaling a medical emergency. Despite immediate CPR efforts by his stepdad and mother, and emergency services' intervention, Bailey suffered seizures and stopped breathing.

He was airlifted to Southampton Hospital, where doctors managed to restart his heart. Unfortunately, subsequent scans revealed no brain activity and organ failure. Surrounded by his loving family—his mother Charly, stepdad Ash, father Andrew, and other siblings—Bailey was taken off life support.

Bailey was described as a boy with a bright smile, a kind heart, and vivid imagination. He loved spending time with his dad, playing video games, attending truck shows, and sharing moments with his many siblings. The family expressed their deep sorrow and the immense challenge of coping with such a loss.

They have set up a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses, which has already raised significant support from the community.
