A tragic incident unfolded during the 15-mile ‘Big Cheese’ trail running event near Cheddar as a participant experienced a fatal medical emergency. The race, which featured 300 runners traversing a challenging off-road route across the Mendip Hills, was marred by the death of a runner who collapsed around four miles into the course.

Despite efforts from fellow runners and medical professionals, the individual was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a participant shared the distressing account of the incident on the running app, Strava, detailing the valiant but ultimately unsuccessful efforts to save the fallen runner.
