Warrens Bakery, a beloved traditional Cornish pasty chain, is set to open a new outlet at 57 High Street in Weston-super-Mare next month. This exciting development is part of a broader effort by North Somerset Council to rejuvenate the town’s High Street, making it more attractive for shoppers and businesses alike.
The shop unit at 57 High Street recently underwent a comprehensive renovation overseen by the council’s appointed contractor, Bray & Slaughter. The refurbishment involved removing the existing shopfront, signage, and roller shutter door, replacing them with a charming, traditional frontage that complements the area’s historic character.
In addition to aesthetic improvements, energy efficiency upgrades were installed to help reduce premises costs for Warrens Bakery, aligning with North Somerset Council’s commitment to combat the climate emergency through sustainable initiatives.

This transformation is a key component of North Somerset Council’s ambitious placemaking vision for Weston-super-Mare, made possible by a significant £20 million investment secured from the UK government. The goal is to breathe new life into the town centre, attracting visitors, boosting foot traffic, and stimulating the local economy.
Councillor Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council’s executive member for placemaking, expressed his enthusiasm: “The improvements to this building are remarkable and it’s fantastic to welcome Warrens Bakery to our High Street. Their arrival will not only enhance the shopping experience but also create new job opportunities for local people. It’s a win-win for the town."
He added, “This successful refurbishment demonstrates that investing in high street properties can lead to vibrant commercial activity. We look forward to welcoming more businesses to other restored units at 67-69 and 73 High Street, which are currently available through estate agents Carter Jonas.”
Craig Wood, Assistant Retail Director of Warrens Bakery, shared his excitement: “From our first family bakery in St Just to now, we’re proud to bring a taste of Cornwall to Weston-super-Mare. Our new store is ideally located in the town centre, and we look forward to serving locals and visitors with our famous pasties and a range of fresh, delicious products.”
The new Warrens Bakery store is expected to create between five and ten part-time jobs, providing a valuable boost to the local job market and supporting the town’s ongoing economic revitalisation.
