Residents of Devizes, Wiltshire, are invited to engage in the upcoming transformation of the historic Wadworth Brewery site in the heart of the town. The long-anticipated redevelopment will introduce 102 new homes, blending contemporary living with preservation of local heritage.
Planning permission has been secured, and construction is scheduled to commence in August. Developer Backhouse is hosting a public consultation on Saturday, August 2, from 11am to 2pm at The Bear Hotel. This event offers residents an opportunity to discuss the project details, including demolition timelines, construction schedules, traffic arrangements, and delivery hours.
Ian Jones, CEO of Backhouse, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Revitalizing this cherished local landmark with thoughtfully designed homes is a privilege. Backhouse’s proposal has been shaped through consultations with local stakeholders to align with community needs. The development will feature a range of housing options, including studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, alongside three- and four-bedroom houses, varying between two to four stories.
Significant attention will be given to environmental enhancements. With new trees, hedgerows, and canal-side planting complementing retained mature trees, the project promises a substantial 1,446% biodiversity net gain. Central to the site is a feature green square, designed as a welcoming public space, alongside the inclusion of a new shop for local convenience.
