A poignant moment unfolded at the Yeovil & District Royal British Legion memorial service when the estranged daughter of local veteran Timothy (Tim) Rogers attended, bringing closure and connection to a family long separated. Tim, who passed away on September 6, had been supported in his final months by the Armed Forces Welfare Officer within the Somerset Foundation NHS Trust.
Estranged from his family for several years, Tim’s end-of-life arrangements were managed by the Royal British Legion after being notified of his passing. A Legion representative promptly visited the hospital, ensuring that a respectful and fitting memorial service was arranged.
Tim served proudly with the Army Catering Corps, which later merged into the Royal Logistic Corps, remaining a dedicated member of the Armed Forces family throughout his life. Recognizing this, the Yeovil & District branch rallied their members and local veterans to honor Tim with a dignified farewell.

In an especially moving gesture, outreach efforts successfully reconnected Tim with his estranged daughter, who attended the service, adding a deeply emotional layer to the tribute.
Simon Woodrow, chairman of the local branch, reflected, “As part of the Armed Forces family, it is our privilege to ensure no veteran faces their final parade alone. We fulfilled this promise for Tim, honoring his service and ensuring he received the dignified farewell he deserved.”
