Tom Lammonby Commits Future to Somerset with New Three-Year Contract

Tom Lammonby, the talented 24-year-old batting all-rounder, has signed a new three-year contract with Somerset County Cricket Club, securing his place at the club until 2027. Having joined Somerset’s academy in 2015, Lammonby has developed through the ranks and made a strong impression in 66 first-class matches, amassing 3,390 runs at an average of 31.38. He made his first-class debut in the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020 and has been an integral part of Somerset’s recent successes.

Lammonby expressed his enthusiasm about continuing his journey with Somerset: “It was an easy decision for me and I’m really happy to have put pen to paper. Hopefully, I can make more memories and help Somerset to win more trophies. The club feels like home, and we’ve always been competing for silverware. We want to continue in that direction because we want to be a team that’s remembered for years to come. That’s the goal and that’s what we’re aiming for.”

Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, praised Lammonby’s all-round capabilities: “Tom is a stylish left-handed top-order batter, renowned for his fluent stroke play and natural timing. He also has the ability to influence the game with the ball and in the field. Having established himself within our senior group, we look forward to supporting his continued progression and witnessing the role he plays in Somerset’s success now and in the future.”

As Somerset prepares to return to County Championship Division One action against Sussex at Taunton, Matt Henry’s arrival adds further strength to the squad. The 33-year-old New Zealand fast bowler, who missed the first five matches due to injury, is now available and has extended his stay with Somerset until July 9. Henry’s previous spell with Somerset in 2023 was highly successful; he was the leading wicket-taker in the Vitality Blast and earned the player of the match award in the final helping Somerset claim the trophy. In the County Championship, he took 32 wickets at an impressive average of 16.18.

Reflecting on his return, Henry said: “I loved everything about my time with Somerset and to top it off by winning the Vitality Blast was something pretty special. Everyone made me and my family feel incredibly welcome, and the supporters were amazing. Hopefully, I can repay the club’s faith in me by helping Somerset achieve more success this summer.”

Head coach Jason Kerr expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming match against Sussex: “The victory against Essex last time was a fantastic performance and gave the team much-needed confidence. Training has been outstanding this week, and there’s a great energy around the club. Matt Henry brings experience, natural energy, and skill to the squad. We’re eager to see the impact he makes. Although we were outplayed at Hove, we now have the chance to set things right against Sussex. We understand what they bring, and we welcome the challenge.”

With Lammonby’s contract extension and Henry’s return, Somerset looks well-equipped to continue battling at the highest level and aiming for silverware this season.
