Toby Samuel, the professional tennis player from Team Bath Tennis, has made an impressive start to his hard court season by winning the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger in Canada, marking the biggest title of his career so far.
Samuel showcased remarkable consistency throughout the week, not dropping a single set en route to his first ATP Challenger Tour 75-level triumph. This outstanding achievement has propelled him to a new career-best world ranking of 112.
Returning to competition following Wimbledon, Samuel, who is coached by Ian MacDonald and Tiarnan Brady, demonstrated his dominance early on. In his opening two matches, he lost just three games, comfortably defeating Canada’s Mikael Arseneault 6-2, 6-0, and Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki 6-0, 6-1.

The second seed continued his strong form by overcoming Taiwan’s Hsu Yu-hsiou with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory before beating fellow Brit Charles Broom 7-6(4), 6-2 in the semi-finals.
This set up a final against local favourite Liam Draxl. Despite Draxl breaking serve early, Samuel’s quality shone through, securing a 6-4, 6-2 victory to claim the title.
This win represents Samuel’s fifth career ATP Challenger title. He is now preparing for the upcoming US Open by competing at the Vancouver Open this week, where he will face British player Jack Pinnington Jones in the first round on Tuesday.
