Toaster Fire Ravages Taunton Kitchen, Casualties Treated Onsite

A kitchen fire sparked by a toaster erupted in a terraced house in north Taunton on Friday, April 24, around 2:30 pm, prompting a rapid emergency response.

The blaze caused thick smoke to pour from the property, drawing the attention of a passerby who bravely assisted a woman from the burning home before emergency services arrived. Firefighters from Taunton and Wellington quickly took control of the situation, employing breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire.

Both the woman and her rescuer received on-site first aid and oxygen treatment from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service personnel. Paramedics later arrived to further assess them for smoke inhalation.

The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen, while the rest of the two-story terraced home suffered minor smoke damage. Fire control initially mobilized two fire engines in response to the 999 call reporting the domestic fire involving a toaster.

Through coordinated efforts and effective ventilation techniques, the firefighters contained the blaze and minimized further harm to the property and its occupants. The incident underscores the importance of fire safety and swift intervention during household fires.
