Three Pupils Electrocuted at Somerset Boarding School

Three pupils at Millfield School in Somerset sustained severe burns after coming into contact with overhead electrical cables at their boarding house on Saturday evening. The incident required urgent medical intervention, with emergency services, including an air ambulance, specialist hazard teams, fire crews, and police, responding promptly.

A spokesperson for Millfield School confirmed that the three students were transported to hospital, where they remain in stable condition and are being supported by their families. Authorities have reported the incident to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which will lead the investigation.

“Three students were involved in an isolated accident involving overhead electrical cables,” said the school spokesperson. “Millfield staff provided immediate support, and emergency services arrived within minutes. There is no ongoing danger to others. The thoughts of the entire Millfield community are with the injured students and their families. We ask for privacy and for speculation to be avoided while investigations continue.”

Avon and Somerset Police responded to the scene at 7:50 pm on May 3, following reports of the incident. The police confirmed serious injuries to three individuals and that next of kin had been informed. The HSE has also been in contact with both police and the school to carry out preliminary inquiries.
