Three Companies Face Prosecution over Hinkley Point C Worker’s Death

Three companies are set to face prosecution over the tragic death of Jason Waring, a supervisor at the Hinkley Point C nuclear construction site. Jason, 48, tragically lost his life after sustaining fatal injuries on November 13, 2022, while working at the site near Bridgwater.

Jason Waring, a dedicated father of four, had been a supervisor at the project since 2018. Remembered fondly by his family, his wife Sarah described him as the “life and soul of the party,” paying a heartfelt tribute following his unexpected passing.

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the UK’s independent nuclear regulator, has now announced that three companies will be prosecuted for health and safety offences connected to Jason’s death. The companies facing charges are NNB Generation Company (HPC) Ltd (NNB GenCo), Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS, and Laing O’Rourke Delivery Limited.

Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS and Laing O’Rourke Delivery Limited form the joint venture BYLOR JV, responsible for delivering the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C. Meanwhile, NNB GenCo serves as the principal contractor overseeing the ongoing nuclear construction project.

The decision to initiate legal proceedings follows a thorough investigation by ONR. Specific charges, along with details about the upcoming court hearing, will be announced in due course.
