Three Arrested on Suspicion of Murder After Man Goes Missing from Sailing Boat in Dorset

Three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man reportedly fell overboard from a sailing boat in Dorset and remains missing. The detained suspects include a 46-year-old man from Poole, a 31-year-old man with no fixed address, and a 22-year-old from Essex. All are currently in police custody and undergoing questioning by murder squad detectives.

Dorset Police have withheld details about the missing man’s identity as the investigation continues. On Monday evening, forensic officers were seen searching a block of flats near Baiter Park in Poole, indicating the thoroughness of the ongoing inquiry.

According to Dorset Police, a report was received at 6:56 pm on Sunday stating that a man was believed to have gone into the water from a sailing boat in Arne Bay sometime between 8 pm and 9 pm on the previous Friday. The force added that detailed searches are underway to locate the missing individual, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

“The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s disappearance and the delay in reporting the incident,” said a police spokesperson. “The three men were arrested to aid the inquiry and provide legal safeguards during the investigation. We urge the public to avoid speculation as officers work to establish a clear understanding of the events.”

Arne Bay, located on the edge of the Arne Peninsula within Poole Harbour, is known for its sheltered waters and proximity to the RSPB Arne Nature Reserve, a site celebrated for its rare bird species and rich biodiversity.

Dorset Police continue their investigation and have not released further updates at this time.
