‘Thoroughly Evil’ Cocaine Addict Jailed for Murder and Multiple Sexual Offences

Kieron Goodwin, a dangerous cocaine addict from Frome, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his partner, Olivia Wood, and for numerous sexual offences against four women. Olivia, 29, was strangled to death after just three months in a relationship when she tried to leave Goodwin, who had supplied her with cocaine before committing the fatal assault.

In addition to the murder, Goodwin received nine concurrent life sentences for a series of sexual offences spanning five years. He was convicted of rape, sexual assault by penetration, and coercing women into non-consensual sexual acts. His victims included three other women besides Olivia.

During sentencing, Judge Martin Picton described Goodwin as “highly dangerous,” a “manipulative, deviant misogynist and selfish narcissist,” labeling him a “thoroughly evil individual.” The judge emphasized that this description was fully warranted by Goodwin’s actions.

Goodwin consistently denied killing Olivia but was found guilty following a five-week trial at Bristol Crown Court. The case revealed a brutal pattern of physical and psychological abuse, including coercive behaviour and threats of self-harm. WhatsApp messages uncovered attempts by Goodwin to pressure Olivia into sexual acts involving another man, despite her repeated refusals.

Olivia had also given Goodwin over £6,000 to help with bills, money he reportedly spent on cocaine. Evidence found during the investigation included a suitcase packed with Olivia’s belongings, suggesting she was preparing to leave him.

On July 30, 2024, Goodwin called emergency services to report Olivia was not breathing. Paramedics arrived to find her severely injured, and police later arrested Goodwin on suspicion of intentional strangulation. Olivia died soon after in hospital with her family at her side.

Following his arrest, Goodwin was charged with murder and controlling and coercive behaviour. While admitting to the latter, he denied murder. The jury, however, found him guilty on all counts.

Olivia’s family paid tribute to her, describing her as “the glue that held us together,” a selfless, witty, and loving presence deeply missed by all who knew her.

The Crown Prosecution Service also detailed Goodwin’s crimes against three other women, which included drugging victims and threatening to distribute intimate photos and involve police. He extorted tens of thousands of pounds from them to fuel his cocaine addiction, using manipulation and threats of self-harm to maintain control.

Detective Superintendent Lorett Spierenburg praised the courage of Goodwin’s victims for coming forward, noting their bravery ensured justice was served and future harm prevented. She also expressed sympathy to Olivia’s family, commending their dignity throughout the proceedings despite Goodwin’s refusal to admit his crimes.

This case underscores the devastating consequences of abuse and manipulation and stands as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by those who exploit others for control and self-gratification.
