Thieves Steal Heavy Machinery in Sophisticated Yeovil Burglary

A large haul of expensive construction machinery was stolen in a well-planned burglary at a builders' merchants site in Yeovil. The theft took place between Saturday, February 28, 4:30 pm and Sunday, March 1, 7:00 pm at the Hendford Hill location.

Avon and Somerset Police have revealed that the crime was orchestrated by at least two individuals who gained initial access on the morning of February 28 between 7:20 am and 7:30 am. The same group returned the next day to carry out the theft.

During the evening of March 1, between 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm, the offenders loaded several valuable pieces of construction machinery onto a large HGV with blue, high-sided curtains. They then departed via Lysander Road, followed closely by a small, dark vehicle.

Police are actively investigating and have reviewed CCTV footage and taken witness statements. They are appealing to the public for any information, especially from anyone who saw multiple people at the site on February 28 and March 1 or noticed the large lorry entering and leaving via Lysander Road.

Authorities also urge drivers on Hendford Hill, Lysander Road, and surrounding areas who may have dashcam footage from the stated times and dates to come forward. Any CCTV or dashcam recordings could be vital in the investigation.

Neighbourhood Inspector Rose Green acknowledged community concerns and reassured that efforts to catch the culprits are ongoing. “This was a sophisticated and well-organised burglary. We encourage anyone with any information, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact us,” she said.
