Theft of Saddles Devastates Somerset Riding School

Ridgeview Riding, a beloved riding school in Queen Camel near Yeovil, Somerset, has been left devastated after seven horse saddles were stolen during an overnight break-in. The raid, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, has dealt a heavy blow to the small school, which is known for its inclusive approach, welcoming riders with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN).

Owner Annie Price described the theft as “soul destroying,” emphasizing the saddles' importance to their therapeutic riding sessions. The stolen equipment, valued at around £4,500, holds significant sentimental and functional value for the school’s community.

“We provide a holistic approach to riding and horsemanship, attracting many riders facing challenges such as disabilities, confidence issues, and anxiety,” Price said. “Losing these saddles affects not just the business but the lives of those who depend on our sessions.”

Tracks at the scene suggest the thieves used a vehicle for a swift getaway. This was the first time Ridgeview Riding has experienced such a violation. Price has urged the public to remain vigilant for any saddles that might have been hidden nearby or found being sold illicitly.

In a heartfelt Facebook appeal, she wrote, “Please make these saddles too hot to handle.” She also warned other riding schools to increase their security following the incident, noting that locks were forcibly broken during the theft.

Ridgeview Riding has shared photos of the stolen saddles on their Facebook page to aid in their recovery. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Avon and Somerset Police via 101, quoting crime reference number 5225312836.
