There’s something undeniably magical about winding down the year with a visit to a Christmas market. Picture yourself wrapped up warm, a steaming mug of hot chocolate or mulled wine in hand, the scent of roasted chestnuts and sizzling sausages filling the air. The wooden chalets adorned with twinkling lights create a festive wonderland, signaling the start of the holiday season.
Each year, consumer publication Which? surveys thousands of visitors to rank the best Christmas markets across the UK. This year, eight standout markets were selected based on their stellar food, cultural attractions, and festive spirit. Remarkably, Somerset is home to two of these top destinations.
Bath’s Christmas Market, running from 27 November to 14 December 2025, transforms the city into a winter fairy tale. Set against the stunning backdrop of Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths, over 200 chalets offer artisan gifts, handmade crafts, and sumptuous seasonal treats. The city’s iconic Georgian architecture glows under delicate fairy lights, while carol singers and the aroma of mulled wine complete the enchanting atmosphere. Bath, voted Which? readers’ favourite medium-sized city, boasts four-star ratings for its food, drink, and cultural sights. Nearby, visitors can enjoy an ice rink in Royal Victoria Park or take a scenic stroll along the famous Royal Crescent.
