From its beginnings in the stunning former NatWest bank building, the restaurant has secured a reputation as one of the city’s preferred venues for birthdays, graduations, and celebrations.
The Ivy Bath holds a special place locally, distinguished by its warm, intimate atmosphere, stylish décor, and unique art installations. More than just another branch of the Ivy group, this restaurant offers something distinct, with a size and friendliness that stands apart from sister venues around the country.
Matt Glister, the recently appointed general manager, brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously led The Ivy in Cardiff. He shared his enthusiasm for Bath and his vision for the restaurant’s future:

“Bath is unlike anywhere else. Its beauty and uniqueness mean we can truly connect with the local community, businesses, and visitors. We actively partner with Bath Rugby, the Theatre Royal, and the city’s universities, reflecting our deep commitment to this great city,” Matt explained.
Innovative initiatives are already underway. For the forthcoming rugby season, anyone donning a Bath Rugby shirt will receive a complimentary glass of champagne. During the recent football World Cup, they honoured England’s 1966 victory with a special menu priced at £19.66. Complementing this, the current Golden Summer menu offers two courses for £19.95 at lunch, illustrating the team’s continual drive to provide value and special experiences.
The Ivy’s doors open every day from early morning through to late evening, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, coffee, and cocktails. The restaurant prides itself on creating a warm and inviting setting where guests can relax and enjoy signature dishes such as the famous duck salad, shepherd’s pie, and the classic fish and chips.
Matt’s expertise extends beyond management; a wine connoisseur and seasoned sommelier, he is dedicated to developing his team of 120 full- and part-time staff. He is passionate about training and providing support to every member, from kitchen chefs to front-of-house personnel.
One of the notable recent projects has been the refurbishment of the upstairs terrace. Matt commented on the improvements:
“We’ve made sure the terrace feels like an integral part of the restaurant - a perfect spot for dining during the warmer months. The upstairs bar has also been refreshed so that guests can simply come by for a drink or cocktail in a comfortable and stylish environment.”
As the restaurant prepares to celebrate its first decade in Bath, there is a palpable sense of excitement about the future. Matt emphasised their ongoing commitment:
