Thatchers Reinstates Beloved Redwood Cider After Fan Campaign

As the festive season approaches, what better way to celebrate the traditional Somerset way than with a hearty glass of cider? This year, fans of Thatchers Cider have reason to rejoice as the beloved Redwood cider returns to the lineup.

Earlier this year, a devoted fan, Scott Sullivan, launched a heartfelt campaign after Thatchers discontinued his favorite cider, Redwood—an oaky, distinctive brew he and his friends had discovered during a visit to Somerset. His solo protest captured attention and sparked a community of enthusiasts eager for the cider’s return.

Following months of public support and media coverage, Thatchers Cider has responded to the fans' passion. The company announced the reintroduction of Redwood as part of this year’s exclusive Cider Barn range. To celebrate, Scott was invited to Thatchers’ headquarters at Myrtle Farm in Somerset to sample the revived cider.

In a statement, Thatchers expressed, “The revival of Thatchers Redwood is a special moment that embodies the family cidermakers’ relationship with their loyal customers.” Martin Thatcher, the fourth-generation cidermaker, personally presented Scott with a case of the newly released cider, moved by the enthusiasm and nostalgia surrounding Redwood.

Martin commented, “Scott’s campaign reminded us of the special place this cider holds in people’s memories.” For Scott, Redwood has been more than just a drink—it was the cider that ignited his affection for Thatchers and deepened the bond among friends since their 2018 tour.

Scott shared, “When Redwood quietly disappeared, we never stopped hoping it would return. What began as a light-hearted campaign was truly a tribute to something that brought us joy.” He described his surprise visit to Myrtle Farm and the thoughtful revival as a “surreal” and gratifying experience.

Thanks to this heartfelt campaign and the commitment of the Thatchers family, fans can now enjoy the special apple cider crafted right here in Somerset throughout the Christmas season and beyond.
