Thatchers Cider Brings Back Beloved Redwood After Fan Campaign

As the festive season approaches, what better way to celebrate Christmas than with a classic Somerset tradition—a genuine glass of cider?

Earlier this year, Thatchers Cider fans were dismayed when one of their favourites, Redwood—a rich, oaky cider—was discontinued. Among the disappointed was Scott Sullivan, who launched a heartfelt campaign to bring the cider back after discovering it on a trip to Somerset.

Following widespread attention, Thatchers have responded to their loyal community and revived Redwood as part of their exclusive Cider Barn range. Scott was invited to the Myrtle Farm headquarters in Somerset to sample the newly released drink firsthand.

In a statement, Thatchers said, “Inspired by the passionate efforts of cider enthusiast Scott Sullivan and a growing community of fans, the revival of Thatchers Redwood is a special moment that embodies the family cidermakers’ relationship with their loyal customers.”

During a surprise visit, Scott was presented with a case of the new batch by Martin Thatcher, the fourth-generation cidermaker. Martin remarked, “We were genuinely moved by the enthusiasm and nostalgia surrounding Redwood. Scott’s campaign reminded us of the special place this cider holds in people’s memories.”

Reflecting on the journey, Scott shared, “Redwood was the cider that made me fall in love with Thatchers. It turned a group of friends into cider superfans during a 2018 tour. When it disappeared quietly from shelves, we never stopped hoping for its return.”

He added, “What began partly as a joke soon became a genuine labor of love. Being invited back to Myrtle Farm and surprised by Martin Thatcher himself was truly surreal. I’m incredibly grateful to the team for listening and thoughtfully bringing Redwood back.”

Thanks to the orchards of Somerset, at least one cider fan will be enjoying a cherished brew this Christmas season—a testament to the power of community and tradition.
