Teenagers Arrested After Vandalism Causes Extensive Damage to Somerset Coach Firm

Two teenage boys have been arrested following a wave of vandalism at Centurion Travel, a coach company based in Somerset. The incident occurred around 8 pm on Monday, April 13, at the firm’s storage yard on West Road, Midsomer Norton.

Staff at the company discovered significant damage to several vehicles, with nearly every window of multiple coaches shattered. The destruction extended to two minibuses, five single-decker coaches, three double-decker vehicles, and two privately owned cars. Additionally, three vintage vehicles, preserved as part of the company’s travel heritage and difficult to repair, were also damaged.

According to company staff, five individuals, all believed to be teenagers with their faces covered, were present when the damage was noticed. One boy in his mid-teens was detained by staff and subsequently arrested but later released to his home; he is expected to be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. A second teenage boy was arrested on Tuesday, April 14, on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in police custody.

Martin Spiller, Managing Director of Centurion Travel, expressed concern over the impact this vandalism will have on the community and the family-run business. He noted that since opening their depot in Welton in 1973, nothing of this nature has occurred. The repair costs and need to source replacement vehicles are expected to run into tens of thousands of pounds.

Centurion Travel operates essential school transport services in Bath and North East Somerset, with priority given to ensuring these services continue smoothly as schools reopen after the Easter break.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information from the public. Authorities are especially interested in any potential dashcam footage or other evidence that could aid the investigation.
