A young woman in her late teens was sexually assaulted in a rural area near Rooksbridge, North Somerset, in the early hours of Monday, March 16. Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that the incident occurred around 1 a.m.
After the attack, the victim managed to escape and was aided by a member of the public. Police have since conducted extensive inquiries, including house-to-house visits, gathering witness statements, and reviewing CCTV footage.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and released on conditional bail as the investigation continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward to assist with their inquiries.

In particular, the police are seeking to speak with a woman who was reportedly asked for directions to Bridgwater by another woman wearing a lanyard and accompanied by a small child. They are also appealing for drivers who were in the areas of Rooksbridge, Loxton, Sevier Road, and Axbridge between 6 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. that day, especially those with dashcam footage that might aid the investigation.
Neighbourhoods’ Inspector Charmaine Dyne emphasized the importance of community support: “This is a thorough investigation, and we remain in contact with the victim, who has been offered specialist support services. We encourage anyone with information or dashcam evidence to get in touch, regardless of how trivial it may seem.”
She added, “Violence against women and girls will not be tolerated. Every victim of sexual offences will be listened to, believed, and supported.”
