On a bright and sunny Saturday, June 8, more than 350 visitors came together to mark the 25th anniversary of St Stephen’s Millennium Green in Lansdown, Bath. This peaceful green retreat, nestled near St Stephen’s Church, was the perfect setting for a day of celebration focused on gardens, community, and nature.
The Lansdown Open Gardens event offered garden enthusiasts and families the chance to explore six enchanting local gardens and one allotment, each showcasing impressive horticultural skills. Visitors streamed through these tranquil spaces, appreciating the vibrant blooms and thoughtful landscaping.
Volunteers had worked tirelessly in the weeks leading up to the event to ensure the Millennium Green was looking its best. Their dedication paid off, creating a welcoming environment that the community could enjoy.

In addition to garden tours, guests strolled the green, browsing plant stalls and indulging in tea and cake served in the charming undercroft of St Stephen’s Church. The occasion successfully raised £4,000, earmarked for maintaining and enhancing this beloved community green space for future generations.
Steve Rea, a committee member of Bath in Bloom, commented, “It was wonderful to showcase St Stephen’s Millennium Green and to see such a diverse range of beautiful gardens on display.” The event was free for children, highlighting the inclusive and communal spirit that defines the Lansdown neighbourhood.
