A disturbing incident unfolded near the Summer Fest music festival in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, where a taxi driver was subjected to racial abuse and physical assault. The attack took place around 3 pm on Saturday, June 7, on Clevedon Road, as festival-goers were heading home.
When a 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman from Swindon targeted the taxi driver, two bystanders—a 61-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man—stepped in to help. Both were also assaulted in the process and sustained facial injuries.
Police responded swiftly, arresting the suspects on the spot. The man faces charges of racially aggravated assault and assaulting an emergency worker, after reportedly assaulting a female police officer during the arrest. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. Both remain in police custody while investigations continue with the Crown Prosecution Service.
