Taxi Driver and Bystanders Assaulted Leaving Somerset Music Festival

A disturbing incident marred the closing moments of Summer Fest in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, June 7, when a taxi driver was subjected to racial abuse and physical assault. The attack occurred around 3 pm on Clevedon Road as attendees were dispersing from the music festival.

The victim, targeted by a man and a woman, faced racial insults followed by an assault. Two members of the public—a 61-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man—came to the driver’s aid but were also attacked, sustaining facial injuries.

North Somerset Neighbourhood Police responded promptly, arresting a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman from Swindon at the scene. During the arrest, a female police officer was also assaulted. The suspects face charges of racially aggravated assault, with the man additionally charged with assaulting an emergency worker. Both remain in custody as investigations continue in coordination with the Crown Prosecution Service.
