A former Shoe Zone retail space on Taunton High Street has been revitalised and converted into an exciting new art gallery, thanks to Summerfield Commercial. Triton Galleries, known for its outlets in Dartmouth and Torquay, has expanded into Taunton, bringing original artworks and collectible limited edition prints by renowned contemporary artists from around the globe to the town centre.
Among the highlights on display is a rare 1972 L.S. Lowry limited edition print titled “Going to the Match,” beautifully signed in pencil. Only 300 copies of this print were produced, making it one of the most sought-after Lowry signed editions. The original painting garnered a record-breaking £7.8 million at auction in 2022.
Summerfield Commercial has refurbished the ground floor for use as the gallery space, while the upper two floors are being transformed into four high-quality rental apartments, expected to be available by the end of summer.

Will Grant, Director of Summerfield Commercial, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We’re thrilled to see this space dedicated to art in the heart of Taunton. The town centre offers a rich cultural mix, including two museums, a theatre, Castle Green event space, and frequent markets, making it a vibrant destination for both culture and shopping.”
David Phelps, Director of Triton Galleries, shared his excitement about the new location: “Opening in Taunton is a fantastic opportunity. We look forward to welcoming both long-time collectors and new visitors to explore a diverse range of artwork—from highly collectible pieces to emerging artists.”
