Taunton Town Football Club Responds After Former CEO Faces Sex Offences Trial

Taunton Town Football Club has released a statement following revelations that their former CEO, Karl Lindsay, is among a group of men set to face trial on serious sexual offence charges. Lindsay resigned from the non-league club last year amid this ongoing investigation.

Lindsay, 55, from Taunton, is one of 14 men charged in a complex case involving alleged drug-facilitated sexual abuse over a 20-year period. Thirteen of these men, including Lindsay, will be tried starting in September.

He faces charges including conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to commit assault by penetration, and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent. Lindsay has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

Although the club did not name Lindsay directly, their statement confirmed that the individual involved left the club last year and has no current ties to Taunton Town Football Club. The club emphasized it is not connected to the legal proceedings and declined to comment further.

“Taunton Town Football Club acknowledges recent media reports regarding serious criminal charges involving a former individual associated with the Club,” the statement read. “This individual resigned from their position last year and has no continuing association with the Club. The Club is not involved in these matters now subject to active legal proceedings, and it would be inappropriate to comment further.

“Taunton Town Football Club remains committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk, in line with The FA’s safeguarding policies and standards. We expect the highest standards of conduct from everyone connected to the Club.”

The case also involves the husband of the alleged victim, a man in his 60s from Stockport, who has admitted to multiple offences including rape and sexual assault but denies drugging his wife. His trial will also take place in September.
